About Us
Mainland Rowing is dedicated to teaching high school students the sport of rowing. Our program is a competitive varsity sport at Mainland Regional High School. We race against boats from local and regional high schools in regattas that culminate at state and national events. We have experienced coaches who run program's during spring, winter and fall seasons. Our team rows out of the Dr. John Holland Boathouse in Ventnor City, NJ.
SPRING SEASON

When the wheater warms, the Varsity and Freshmen/Novice will segue from Winter Training into “on the water training” for the Spring Racing Season. The Spring Racing Season begins around mid March and runs through end of may. Regattas are generally held each weekend. Regattas we have attended in the past include: Manny Flick / Horvat Series (philadelphia) Lake Lenape Sprints (mays Landing, NJ) City Championships (Philadelphia) Garden State Championships (Pennsuaken Township, NJ) Atlantic County Championships (Mays Landing, NJ) Scholastic Rowing Association National Championships (Camden, NJ).

SUMMER TRAINING
Summer training is a key part of rowing to stay in shape and to be ready for the fall season. Mainland does not have a summer training program through the school. There are many options for the athletes' to take part in. Some will decide to train on their own while many will take part in summer rowing programs. These include local programs such as "Chicken Dippers" at the Viking Rowing or could be going to an away camp.

FALL SEASON
Returning rowers will train and race on the Varsity Squad from Preseason through November, while incoming Freshmen/new Oarsmen will train and compete on the Freshmen/Novice Squad. Regattas we have attended in the past include: Ocean City Chase Race (Ocean City, NJ), Navy Day Regatta (Philadelphia, PA), Head of the Schuylkill Regatta (Philadelphia, PA).
WINTER TRAINING
Following the fall, the Varsity and Freshmen/Novice Squads enter Winter Training Mode. This is comprised of ergometer workouts, weight room circuits, swimming, running etc. The goal of Winter Training is to build upon the strength and skills learned in the fall, and to prepare for the spring (Sprint) Season. The team also competes in “Ergathons” or indoor erg competitions, including our own "War At The Shore".
